In the early days of Tuesday Innovation, Esse Skincare came to us with a challenge. How do you allow people to engage with their skin microbiome?
Skin health, the microbiome, and our environments are all intertwined, but how does the amount of time you spend in the sun affect your microbiome? Are some bacteria protective against acne? Can we let users observe actual changes in their microbiome as a result of using Esse products?
So we built a platform to start answering some of those questions with the goal of providing actionable insights to users, and dynamic, personalised information on their skin microbiome.
Now that the platform has been up for a few months, we thought you may like to take a look around.
Onboarding
The first interaction with the platform is crucial. Users are sent swab kits to sample their microbiome in the comfort of their own homes, and we provide a registration process that links the kit to their account, captures some lifestyle information, and even has a "How to swab" demonstration video provided by the Esse Skincare team.
Users can share as much information as they are comfortable with, and always have the option of providing more down the line.
The dynamic dashboard
The user's dashboard has a dynamic card system that provides compact insights based on information provided by the user and from their samples. These change over time, giving the user a reason to log on regularly, and makes the experience deeply personal.
The sample report
For the curious users who really want to explore their microbiome, the sample results page provides information on the exact composition of microbes in their samples. Clicking on segments provides more information on the microbe, and allows users to compare their levels to the greater population, letting them put their results in context.
